We believe that a quality coffee requires a roasting process with a delicate and expert craftsmanship.  We have partnered with Has Bean Coffee, a leading micro-roaster in the UK, where coffee is roasted by hand in small batches. There are no mechanical processes or computerised machinery. The master roaster decides on the roasting profile through the use of his experience and his senses like sight, touch, smell and taste to get the best flavour out of our coffee beans.

Steven Leighton from Has Bean became a biodynamic roaster to support this project and he has provided us with incalculable advice.  Steve and his team roast all of our coffee for both retail, through their site, and wholesale under our own brand - Nardo Single Origin Coffee.

Steve recently visited the farm to meet the team and assist us in our continuous improvement of quality. This year Nelson prepared a special small lot exclusively for Steve of the Bourbon varietal that Steve will sell directly.  This mutual learning is of invaluable benefit for both roaster and farmer and eventually for the consumer who will be able to enjoy a quality cup of coffee. Planting different varietals of coffee and working with a roaster like Steve also gives the consumer more choice and a chance to experience truly unique coffees.

This close relationship between farmer, roaster and distributors and coffee shops are a key feature of the Direct Trade model.
